Kite Beach On Sal – A Surfers Paradise

Sal is one of Cape Verde’s prime destinations for surfing, as well as windsurfing and kitesurfing. The top spot is Kite Beach and  was formerly known as Shark Bay. Contrary to what you might expect by this ancient name there are no sharks here.

From Santa Maria you need a taxi to go to Kite Beach as the spot is a 10 minutes ride.

Kite Beach is both a place for beginners and advanced surfers and is very popular. At rising tide the waves are great. If it is low tide the waves are smaller at Kite beach, though it may be shallow in some places.

There is a nice restaurant at Kite Beach, called Surf Hub Cape Verde.
